A Delta Format for XML: Identifying Changes in XML Files and Representing the Changes in XML
This paper goes into some of the background to DeltaXignia and the general requirements that it addresses. Please note: DeltaXignia has moved forward since this paper so it should be read as background material only.
The Future of XML Comparisons
Although Canonical XML provides a mechanism for verifying that two XML files or documents are equal, it is more often necessary to determine the differences between two XML documents. Such differences should ideally be represented in XML with minimal additional attributes and elements.
We introduce the concept of a delta format, which offers the same look and feel as the original files being compared.
Please note: DeltaXignia has moved forward since this paper so it should be read as background material only.
Within this Conference Paper we:
- Review the delta format and how changes can be simply represented.
- Understand how the delta file can be transformed into HTML for viewing by using a simple XSL style sheet.
- Learn how the delta format can be implemented into existing processes.
“As XML standards emerge, files need to be checked against defined benchmarks. Software that processes XML needs to ensure that the changes made are those that are needed, and that no other changes are made.”
